Construction Update #16

The grade girt on Line A was installed, and installation of the exterior cladding has started. While the building is not insulated, the wall on Line A has to be fire rated due to its proximity to the south property line. The wall will consist of cladding both on the exterior and interior, and the cavity will be filled with Roxul insulation. This expensive precaution is required to protect any future structure on the neighbours property in the event of a fire in the barn.

Great work on the project so far. I am curious about the Development charges though - Did the museum end up having to pay them, and if so, how much had to be paid?

Yes, The museum did have to pay the Development Charges. We were able to leverage a credit of $52,800 from the Town and Region, however, we atill had to pay over $100,000 in charges. As time goes on, the charges increase steadily (had our permit not been issued before August 18th they would have increased by $35,000) and the Board voted to bite the bullett before the entire project was out of reach.

Thanks for these updates. I look forward to coming to the museum to see the changes in person.

When the barn is complete, will the streetcars be rerouted for a run-around the barn before heading to the mainline?

There will be no change in the operation for some time. It will be several years before track 37 is complete, and the overhead is up. In additon, loop operation using track 37 poses occupancy control challenges. We may look at a track 37 shuttle as an alternative.
